Preliminary Survey

The collection of survey data on which to base studies on a proposed project or a proposed final survey.

Boundary Survey

A survey made to establish or reestablish a boundary line on the ground or to obtain data for constructing a map or plat showing the boundary line.

Land Title Survey

Also known as a commercial loan/mortgage survey or ALTA survey. A survey of real property, including the plat of survey, acceptable to a title insurance company for purposes of insuring title to said real property, free and clear of survey questions disclosed by the survey and indicated on the plat.

Topographic Survey

A survey of an area which has for its major purposes the determination of the configuration of the surface of the ground and the location of natural and artificial objects.

Site Plan Survey

Also known as topographic plot plan. A combination of boundary and topographic surveys with resulting plans used for designing development features such as roads, subdivisions, commercial/industrial construction, etc.

Subdivision Survey

A type of land survey in which the legal boundaries of an area are located and the area is divided into parcels or lots, streets and/or rights-of-way. Property corners and dividing lines are marked or monumented.

Construction Survey

The survey measurements made while construction is to begin or is in progress to determine position and adequacy of completion.

Mortgage Inspection

A type of survey made for the sole purpose of a lending agency to determine that improvements do in fact exist on the property. The plat of survey provided shows the relationship of the improvements to the approximate property line. The actual survey boundary is not set or determined.
